Striped Bass
The iconic striped bass is caught strictly by hook-and-line in the state of Massachusetts, and the commercial fishery is the only way the fish is available to consumers. It is a prized sustainable seafood choice. The fishery typically opens in mid-July and remains open until the quota is harvested, which is usually about a month later. The coastal waters of Cape Cod produce the vast majority of Massachusetts's commercial striped bass landings, and the fishery gives a healthy boost to the local economy each season.
