Fish for Families
The Fish for Families program is a unique collaboration with the The Family Pantry of Cape Cod that distributes locally-caught seafood to families in need across Cape Cod. Seafood is a healthier source of protein that is often cost prohibitive for families on a tight budget. The Greater Boston Food Bank estimates that 10 percent of Cape Cod residents are not sure where their next meal is coming from. The goals of the program are to continue to provide nutritionally superior seafood to hungry families, support our local fishermen and promote less popular species of fish.

Results
We have put five different types of local, healthy seafood totaling almost 7,000 pounds on the tables of pantry clients since the program’s inception in August of 2013. Approximately 75% of the pantry’s clients have taken the fish and the simple recipes we provided. That translated into 887 households that enjoyed local seafood five times in the past year.
