Bob Keese

Bob Keese comes from a fishing family and is passing the tradition down to his son, Drew, who has been on the boat with him since he was a young kid. He likes fishing because he enjoys the outdoors and being his own boss. The day-boat aspect of his job allows him to have a family life, which is important to him, and to bring the freshest scallops to market, which gives him great pride.
"I'm sure you've all heard the news that populations of groundfish like yellowtail flounder are lower than we need them to be for sustainable fishing. Sometimes we catch small amounts of these fish while harvesting sea scallops. We wanted to start quantifying this with facts, so we hired a scientist from UMass Dartmouth to do a study with us. We'll be able to make sure we have the science we need to develop solutions as problems arise and safeguard both the fish and Cape Cod's small-boat scallop fishery into the future."
