Fishing is in Andy's blood: The Keese family history includes whalers and fishermen of all kinds. He has always enjoyed working on the water and working for himself. Andy started fishing with his brother, Bob, in 1983 on his father's boat out of Wellfleet. Today, he fishes for scallops out of Chatham on his own F/V Miss Rockville, and it's still all in the family. His wife, Alane, is his business partner and his brother-in-law, Russell, crews with him. Andy and Alane have two boys, Andy Jr. and Noah.
"It's not enough to be a good fisherman anymore; you also have to be a good businessman. With the help of the Community Development Partnership and the Fisheries Trust, Alane and I have taken our fishing business to the next level. That has us on solid ground for the future — and for our boys' future."
